Notes:

- His father John was a chandler who migrated from the small town of Downham to Great Yarmouth about 1613. He was very successful at his craft, and John may have been the son of Thomas Goodale "the elder" and a nephew of a Richard Goodale, a tallow chandler of Downham Market. John was married to his first wife Bridget Portler in Downham on Sept 21, 1588, and they had 7 children together before she died in 1607. He married second to Elizabeth (Parlett) Taylor who already had two children of her own, and then bore him nine more! "Mr. John Goodale" was buried in Great Yarmouth in 1625, and in his will, he left to his son Richard "if still living", six pounds a year for life. In 1635, Richard was back in Great Yarmouth, and was sued in a lawsuit along with his step-mother Elizabeth. Soon after, they were both in Salisbury along with his wife Dorothy.
- Richard made his will June 7, 1666 and it was proved Oct 9, 1666. His wife had pre-deceased him Jan 27, 1663/4.
- His grandparents are unknown.
