NY TIMES 1931: "WIFE, 78, SUES HUSBAND, 92" -PATERSON MAN, IN NON-SUPPORT ACTION, SAYS SHE DESERTED HIM. Paterson N.J., March 11--Alexander MacFarland, 92 years old, and his wife Carrie, 78, whom he married 51 years ago, appeard before Recorder Harry S. Joelson in Paterson police court today, the wife charging non-support. Mr. MacFarland informed the court that his wife had deserted him twenty-five years ago, for which he had never forgiven her. He is now a resient of Holland Home for the Aged, this city, while the wife lives with her son George, Oakland Avenue, Oakland. The son, because of unemployment, asked his father to contribute to the mother's support and finally had the charge preferred. When it was reveled that the nonagenarian husband owned property which netted him an income of $25 monthly the court gave him a week to make proper provision for his wife.
