- Symon is mentioned in the will of his father-in-law John Wells (1618), and the will of his father (1590). He is probably the grandson of Thomas Totehyll of Woodford, Northamptonshire, but any further ancestry is unknown.
- Symon's widow Isabel traveled with the family to Massachusetts on the "Planter" in 1635. There is no record of her after arriving, so perhaps she died very soon after.
