Notes:
-Elmer Simpson relays that her family were Lutherans who emigrated to escape religious prosecution. That they walked to Pittsburgh, and settled in Tarentown, outside of Pittsburgh.
-Also that around 1900 they settled near Waterford, PA and bought a farm. The boys worked in the Steel Mills.
-The 1900 and 1910 Censii list daughter Elizabeth as having been born
in Maryland. Her parents names come from her death certificate. In fact,
it would seem from an October 1848 ship's manifest, that Frederick Heilman
arrived with his wife and child Elizabeth at Baltimore port along with
Elizabeth's parents and siblings. The 1850 Census lists two children of
Frederick, Elizabeth and Mary. There is no sign of these parents in the 1860 census,
but there is a Elizabeth Heilman of the right age working living in a
hotel owned by John Sweigart in Altoona. She was reported to have been
born in Altoona by a family member. Her sister Mary then is likely to be
the Mary Hileman living with Michael and Catherine Rice, the grandparents.
